Love God.

Love People

Do Good.

All for Christ.

Our Story

Originally founded in the 1760s as the Congregational Church of Chester, our church has been part of the story of this community for generations. For centuries, faithful men and women gathered here to worship Jesus, serve their neighbors, and bear witness to the goodness of God in Chester. The church existed as a place where people sought to follow Christ together and live out their faith in everyday life. In 2020, the church closed its doors with the hope and prayer that worship services would one day begin again.

Green Mountain Church held its first worship services in September 2025 as a new expression of that same long-standing ministry.

Our Vision

is to see a Christ-centered community rooted in the teachings of God’s Word here in Chester—where people follow Jesus in their everyday lives, where good works become a pattern of love, and where the presence of the church transforms the spiritual tone of our region.

Love God

We love because he first loved us.” 1 John 4:19

The central call of following Jesus is to love God with all that we are. He is the Creator who did not stay far away, the Father who loves His children, and the Savior who came near to bring us back to Himself. Loving God is more than believing the right things or showing up on Sundays; it means learning to follow Jesus in the everyday places of our lives. As we worship Him, trust Him, and walk with Him, we become more like Him — day by day, moment by moment, all for Christ.

Love People

Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.” 1 John 3:18

Following Jesus teaches us to love people the way He has loved us. Every person is made in the image of God, deeply loved by Him, and worth our care, attention, and compassion. Loving people means we don’t just gather in the same room; we learn to carry one another’s burdens, welcome one another with grace, and serve one another in real ways. We want to become the kind of people who love our neighbors, our community, and one another as Christ has loved us.

Do Good

Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people… Galatians 6:10

Following Jesus doesn’t just change what we believe; it changes how we live. Because God has been so good to us, we want to be people who bring goodness, mercy, and hope into the world around us. Doing good means serving our neighbors, caring for our community, and looking for everyday ways to reflect the love of Christ. We know we cannot fix everything, but we can faithfully do the good God puts in front of us — all for Christ.

All for

Christ

...so that in everything he might have the supremacy.
Colossians 1:18

At the center of everything we do is Jesus. He is the reason we gather, the One we follow, and the hope we carry into the world. We want our worship, our relationships, our service, and our everyday lives to point back to Him. We love God, love people, and do good because everything belongs to Christ.

Pastor Jon Bryant

Jon and his wife, Marissa, have been married for almost ten years and are raising two boys who bring plenty of joy, noise, and adventure into their home. Jon grew up in Charlotte, North Carolina, Marissa is from Massachusetts, and their boys were born here in Vermont.

Jon loves being outside, cool Vermont summers, reading, watching football as a loyal Carolina Panthers fan, smoking meat, talking about The Lord of the Rings, and hanging out with their dog, Bear. He enjoys playing music, sitting around fires, and reading with his kids. He does not love cold weather, but he is slowly figuring out how to survive Vermont winters one sweatshirt at a time.

Jon and Marissa met in college and began ministry together in 2015. In 2021, they sensed God leading their family to Chester. Jon has a B.A. in Religious Studies, along with an M.Div., MAT, and Th.M. from the Rawlings School of Divinity.

Together, Jon and Marissa love being part of Chester. They want to follow Jesus faithfully, raise their boys with joy, and help Green Mountain Church become a Christ-centered, Scripture-rooted community where people learn to love God, love people, and do good in everyday life.

“And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy. For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross.”

Colossians 1:18-20
